Department of Defence's works training school celebrates Women's Month by empowering women with skills

On Friday, 5 August 2011, Department of Defence’s works training school in Pretoria West, Atteridgeville will commemorate Women’s Day by empowering women with skills that they can utilise in their daily lives.

One Hundred and Twenty (120) women from all arms of services of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) (SA Army, SA Air Force, SA Navy and SA Military Health Services) will benefit from an initiative specifically designed to equip them with skills which include amongst others, self defence, first aid, welding, motor mechanical work, electrical work, driving and maintenance, textile work, nature guiding, computer work to mention but a few.

Instructors and female learners who have already established themselves in these trades will offer tuition and assistance to these women.

The event which is dubbed, ‘‘Women as Angels of Change” will be attended by senior officers of the SANDF, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Ms Nomaindia Mfeketho and Ms Lumka Yengeni, a Member of Parliament who will also be the keynote motivational speaker on the day. The activities of the day commence at 08h00.
