The Department of Defence will this year participate at the Pretoria Show from 28 August to 6 September 2009. The Pretoria Show presents a wonderful opportunity for the Department of Defence to showcase its role and functions, its work during peace missions, and display its military hardware.
The Department of Defence, represented by the South African Army, South African Air Force, South African Navy and the South African Military Health Service will provide both indoor and outdoor exhibitions and will participate in the arena programme.
The indoor exhibition will be in hall F and the outdoor exhibition is situated on the eastern side of hall F. The indoor exhibition will consist of static displays encompassing the latest equipment, simulators and a reserve and South African National Defence Force Peace Missions exhibition.
At the outdoor exhibition, the South African Army will showcase the Olifant Mk2 main battle tank, the Rooikat MK 1D armoured car, the ratel, caspir and other hardware. The South African Air Force will showcase the state of the art Agusta A109 light utility helicopter, while the South African Navy will showcase its Namacurra harbour patrol boat, and the South African Military Health Service will showcase deployable dental equipment, a deployable pharmacy and a medical and surgical post.
Both the outdoor and indoor exhibitions are open to the public, and will also encompass a recruitment exhibition for all four arms of service. The arena programmes are scheduled to take place on 28 and 29 August from 18h30 to 20h30.
The media is advised that the military hardware for the show will be transported by road to the Pretoria Show Grounds on Tuesday, 25 August 2009. More substantial information in this regard will be released closer to the time.
