On Friday, 1 July 2011 at 07h30, the DOD will host a Human Resources Development (HRD) Conference at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)Centre in Pretoria. This conference will be attended by the department’s senior officials and civilian functionaries.
The purpose of this conference is to acknowledge Human Resources Development (HRD) as the strategic driver for fulfilling the mandate of the DOD.
The theme for the conference is “Making the elephant dance” which is adopted from the Public Service’s Trainers Forum 2010 Conference and is based on the premise of James A Belasco that to effect change in a large organisation is comparable to teaching an elephant to dance. Key to organisational change that will result in effective service delivery is strong education training and development process together with a sustained will to perform. Three prerequisites for the change are visionary strategies, empowered people, and focused resources.
The conference will provide a platform to communicate new trends and developments in the HRD field to strategic decision makers of DOD. It will also provide opportunity for discussing and networking on the new DOD HRD Strategy and the New Education Training and Development (ETD) Landscape.
You are cordially invited to send a reporter and photographer/cameraperson to attend the opening ceremony scheduled for Friday, 1 July 2011, 08h40 to 10h20.
