The Gauteng Department of Health and Social Development will today, 3 February 2012, commemorate the International Cancer awareness day at Muso High School in Pimville, Soweto.
The event in partnership with the Breast Health Foundation (BHF) aims to create Education and awareness and also celebrate survivors of cancer following diagnosis and treatment.
The BHF is community driven and provides informative support to those affected by breast cancer from the point of diagnosis, during treatment and thereafter. It is run by trained survivor volunteers who offer support and counselling to breast cancer patients and their loved ones.
The department will provide access to basic health care screening for the learners and their community. Screenings for the day will include assessing blood pressure, blood glucose levels, Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI’s) and HIV status.
The BHF has collected books which will be donated to the school.
