Department commemorates Child Protection Week

On Saturday, 29 May 2010, more than 1 000 children between the ages of three and 18 from Gauteng's child and youth care centres will have a conference as part of Child Protection Week celebrations in Walter Sisulu Centre in Noordgesig, Johannesburg.

Under the theme: "Caring Society Protects Children", the aim of the conference is to promote the development of children through their participation in different activities, promote the principles of Bana Pele (putting children first) and to allow the children to have a fun filled day.

The celebrations will begin with children's rights awareness walk at 09h00 and the aim of this walk will be to sensitise the public on the need to strengthen and heighten awareness in protecting the rights of children during the 2010 FIFA World Cup and beyond.
