The Northern Cape Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development will be celebrating the Nelson Mandela Week starting from 13 July 2011. The Nelson Mandela Day campaign was launched two years ago by President Jacob Zuma to celebrate the birthday of Mr Mandela as well as his tireless contribution he made for the country and the world. Mandela Day is on 18 July, is also an annual International day adopted by the United Nations.
As part of the activities, the officials of the department will be hard at work cleaning, painting and establishing food gardens at various centres across the province on 13 July 2011. On 15 July the officials will roll up their sleeves and establish food gardens, distribute blankets and provide soup to Old Age Centres in Warrenton and the Age in action home for the elderly in Jan Kempdorp.
The main activity will be on Monday at Boitumelo Crèche where MEC Norman Shushu will hand over warm clothes and toys. The objective of Mandela Day is to inspire individuals to take action and to help change the world for the better.
