One hundred and eleven municipal officials from different local municipalities will be capacitated in municipal finance management through a financial skills training course.
The training which is conducted by the North West Department of Local Government and Traditional Affairs in partnership with Sector Education and Skills Training Organisation (SESTO) and is intended to improve financial management in municipalities following bad audit opinions received by some municipalities from auditor general.
The training is a contribution by the department towards achieving Clean Audit 2014.
After the completion of the course the officials will be equipped with a Local Government Advanced Accounting Certificates (LGAAC). They are expected to make a significant contribution towards improving financial management in municipalities.
The induction to the training will be conducted as follows:
- Group 1 - Sita Building (next to taxi rank) - Rustenburg - 3 September 2012
- Group 2 - Mafikeng Fire Station Lecture Room - Mahikeng - 5 September 2012
- Group 3 - Disaster Risk Management Centre - Klerksdorp - 10 September 2012
- Group 4 - Naledi Local Municipality – Vryburg - 12 September 2012
The training will run through the following phases and their assessment. Maintaining Financial Records and Preparing Final Accounts, Operate a Computerised Accounting System, Record and Evaluate Costs and Revenues, Present Financial Data for Internal and External Use and Operating a Cash Management and Credit Control System.
