The Department of Arts and Culture invites members of the media to a two-day national carnival workshop that will be held at Kopanong Conference Centre, Benoni. The aim of the workshop is to develop a national carnival policy framework for South Africa. The workshop will create a platform for local carnival organisers, funders and promoters to network with their international counterparts from countries such as Brazil and Britain. It is expected that delegates will also discuss coordination of the carnival sector in relation to cultural exchange programmes.
The Department of Arts and Culture believes that a well-coordinated and government supported carnival sector has the potential to contribute to tourism and economic growth. Other participating stakeholders include Culture Arts, Tourism, Hospitality and Sport Sector Education and Training Authority (CATHSSETTA), Department of Tourism, Department of Trade and Industry, provincial governments, International delegates, National Lotteries Board, promoters, Funders and Organisers. Members of the media are invited to attend the sessions. The programme for the two days of the workshop is attached.
