Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and China Agricultural University to sign Implementation Protocol for Agricultural Training of South African students

The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) of the Republic of South Africa and the China Agricultural University of the People’s Republic of China will formalise a collaborative education programme for South African students in the field of agriculture at an official signing ceremony of an Implementation Protocol tomorrow, Thursday 10 February 2011 at 14h30 in Cape Town, South Africa.

The objective of this protocol is to promote the training of South African students for Masters and Doctoral degrees through the DAFF External Bursary Scheme and the China Agricultural University. This educational programme is the first such collaboration between the two countries and will be implemented as from this year, 2011 with the first group of students expected to leave for China later this year. The education programme will focus on the field of agriculture with emphasis on scarce and critical skills.

The Protocol will be signed by the Director-General, Mr Langa Zita for the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of the Republic of South Africa and the Chairman of the University Council Prof QU Zhenyuan for the China Agricultural University of the People’s Republic of China.
