Department’s Veterinary Services to share new approaches to scientific control methods

The Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development’s Veterinary Services will be holding a two day Scientific Workshop in Upington on the 7 to 8 December 2011 in Upington.

The objective of the workshop is to discuss scientific information with officials and further share new approaches to scientific control methods. The theme for this year’s scientific workshop is “Veterinary Epidemiology”.

Amongst topics that will be discussed at the two day workshop are:

  • Data collection for better epidemiology analysis.
  • Vaccination problems experienced in the country regarding the Rift Valley Fever disease.

Veterinary Science Officers will be expected to do Scientific Presentations on interesting cases they encountered in the year. The workshop will seek ways to try and comply with the Hazardous Biological Regulations made under the Occupational Health and Safety Act in terms of monitoring and medical surveillance. It will also be used as an opportunity to recognise those officials with long services of 20 to 40 years. About 100 veterinary officials are expected to attend the workshop.
