Sport and Recreation South Africa (SRSA), the national Department of Sport will be hosting the national cross country championships for schools, at the soccer stadium of the Doskobolos Military Base in Kimberly on Saturday 26 September 2009.
The event is intended to expose athletes at a young age to competitive sport in preparation for future sporting excellence and to fast track transformation through initiatives aimed at previously disadvantaged communities.
The shortest route of the championships will be two kilometres for the 10 year olds while the longest will be eight kilometres for 19 year olds.
The official opening ceremony will be held at De Beers Athletics Stadium on Friday, 25 September 2009 at 18h00.
