The CRL Rights Commission embarked on process of conducting public hearings along with subsequent research expeditions in seven provinces which culminated into a comprehensive report which covered most of the critical proposals and aspirations of communities with regard to the future of male initiation schools in South Africa.
Stakeholders such as the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) and the National House of Traditional Leaders (NHTL) assisted the Commission in process. Through this report the Commission’s objective is to reduce unabated deaths and botched circumcision schools that are taking place in country and to ensure that initiation custom is well protected and promoted.
The CRL Rights Commission is proud to announce the release of one of its research reports, titled: Public Hearings on Male Initiation Schools in South Africa, 2010, and cordially invites you to an official launch of the afore-mentioned report.
During the launch, the CRL Rights Commission will officially hand over the reports to relevant stakeholders for implementation.
These include the following:
- National House of Traditional Leaders
- Department of Traditional Leaders
- Department of Health
- South African national Police Services
- Department of Social Services
- South African Local Government Association
- National Youth Development Agency
- Department of Basic Education
The CRL Rights Commission intends, writing letters to Portfolio Committees of the above mentioned departments and institutions to oversee the implementation of the recommendations set by the CRL Rights Commission. The media is invited to attend the event and witness the formal handing over of the report with recommendations. A program for the day is herein attached for noting.
