CRL Rights Commission to embark on Heritage Month activities with learners, cultural and religious communities in Eastern Cape and North West Provinces

The Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities (‘the Commission’) is a human rights institution established to strengthen constitutional democracy with specific reference to the rights of cultural, religious and linguistic communities and to assist with the building of a truly united South African nation bound by a common loyalty to our country and all our people. 

Concluding the Heritage month 2012, in human rights education and cultural performance approach and as part of our legislative mandate, the CRL Rights Commission is tasked to conduct information and education programmes to promote public understanding of the objectives, role and activities of the CRL Rights Commission.

The following cultural human rights education activities will be conducted in Eastern Cape and North West Province respectively:

  • CRL Rights Commission seminar “The future of the living heritage” to be held on 27 September 2012 at Port Elizabeth, Pine Lodge, Marina drive, Summerstrand, 10h00 to 13h00,
  • CRL Rights Commission outreach dialogue on its constitutional mandate with three prominent high schools in North West, Mahikeng to be conducted on 28 September 2012, Barolong High, Mahikeng High and Kebalepile High Schools, 8h00 to 12h00,
  • CRL Rights Commission outreach dialogue with Barolong tribal authority and its community to be held on 29 September 2012 at the Barolong Boo Ratshidi,Kgotla, Mahikeng 10h00 to 13h00 and
  • CRL Rights Commission outreach dialogue with North West Interfaith Communities on issues such as the recent public hearings on the public holidays act of 1994 and promoting religious tolerance, to be conducted on 30 September 2012 at Mafikeng Museum, 10h00 to 13h00.

The CRL Rights Commission would like to encourage all peace and loving South African cultural, religious and linguistic communities in both provinces to attend these heritage month activities so as to embrace ubuntu in practice, social cohesion, diversity, tolerance, peace and mutual respect.
