The North West MEC for Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Paul Sebegoe, will officially launch the Councillor Induction Programme (CIP) for Bojanala District on 10 July 2011 at Rustenburg Civic Centre starting at 15h00. CIP is intended to introduce new councilors to their new political roles following the recent local government elections.
The CIP is spearheaded by the South African Local Government Association (SALGA) and has the following objectives:
- Capacitating new councillors with a general understanding of their leadership role in municipalities
- To induct councillors on legislation that guides local government
- To induct councillors on key municipal processes, service delivery and development local government.
Eighteen facilitators are based in the province and where selected based on their experience and knowledge in local government. Amongst them are former councilors and former local government practitioners and they have all undergone a "train the trainer" programme.
Thus far, councilors in Ngaka Modiri Molema and Dr Kenneth Kaunda have already gone through the CIP. In Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati, the CIP will be launched on 17 July 2011.
