Correctional services to present rehabilitation in action through offender choral music competition

The Department of Correctional Services will stage the National Offender Choir Competition on 23 March 2012 at the Durban International Convention Centre to showcase offenders' choral music skills as well as rehabilitation work put in by officials in correctional centres.

The competition pits regional victors against one another for the national prestige in five categories namely; solo mezzo soprano, soprano, solo tenor, solo baritone, male voice, and female voice. Each category will be contested by a choral representative from each of the six regions who won the categories named above.

Choral music is identified as one of many rehabilitation tools for offenders in its quest to reintegrate them into the society.

A members' choir will make a guest appearance to add to the entertainment festivities expected at the competition.
