Correctional Services officials, probationers and parolees geared up for Mandela Day celebrations

Answering the call of the former President of the Republic of South Africa, Dr Nelson Rholihlahla Mandela probationers and parolees will join the Department of Correctional Services officials at Mamelodi Hospital and Mmalerato Care Centre as part of making a meaningful contribution to a call to spend 67 minutes of the time to assist those that are less fortunate and privileged in our communities.

To this end the group will cook food, clean the yard facilities, wash and iron the laundry  at the Mamelodi hospital and Mmalerato Care Centre. The Department of Correctional Services delegation will be led by the Deputy Regional Commissioner of Gauteng Region Mr Raynold Ndema. Media is invited to cover the event and highlight the plight and the challenges that are faced by this vulnerable sector of our society that include the elderly, orphans, pensioners and people that are living with disabilities.

Other supporting events to mark Mandela Day will be held throughout the province by the Department of Correctional Services officials and other key stakeholders namely ex offenders, non governmental organisations, members of the community and academic institutions etc.
