The Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) has embarked on a unique partnership with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Regional Government of Tuscany (RGT) to support South African government and communities to play a meaningful role in local government.
The partnership is the result of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the implementation of the programme ‘Decentralisation and Local Development Policies: A Network of Tuscan and South African Local Governments’, which was recently signed between Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs and Regional Government of Tuscany.
The programme will support the department’s commitment to strengthen partnerships with local government and communities with a view to enhance service delivery. The programme is executed by the Italian non-governmental organisation (NGO) Unity and Cooperation for the Development of People (UCODEP).
The parties and other relevant stakeholders will embark on a two day workshop to reflect on a number of local development initiatives to be supported under the programme.
With the theme, ‘Strengthening Basic Services and Infrastructure for Sustainable Local Development: Exchange of Experience between South Africa and Italy”, the workshop will be hosted by Ekurhuleni Municipality as follows:
Date: 13 to 14 October 2009
Venue: Kempton Park Council Chamber, Kempton Park Customer Care Centre, corner Pretoria Road and CR Swart Drive, Kempton Park
