The Western Cape will next week host the National Landcare Conference, with a focus on protecting natural resources and showcasing the province’s most sustainable agricultural projects.
Alan Winde, Minister of Economic Opportunities, will address the delegates during the conference, which is presented by the Western Cape Department of Agriculture.
The conference takes place at Elsenburg between 7 and 11 September. Minister Winde will address the delegates on 9 September.
The programme will include site visits to projects in the Southern Cape, Moorreesburg, Riviersonderend, Paarl and Stellenbosch.
The conference theme is :“LandCare: We Care: Asijiki (meaning way forward)” The aim of the conference is to increase awareness and capacity building to promote sustainable development and especially the protection of natural resources.
LandCare is a national movement aimed at restoring sustainability to land and water management in both rural and urban areas. It encompasses integrated sustainable natural resource management where the primary causes of natural resources decline are recognised and addressed. LandCare is community-based and community-led and seeks to achieve sustainable livelihoods through capacity building and related strategies.
