Pre-MTBPS media workshop
National Treasury will host a media workshop on the Appropriation and Special Appropriation Bills. The objective of the workshop is to educate the media on these two Bills, particularly what they are meant for and how and when they are applied. The workshop will be addressed by National Treasury senior officials who are knowledgeable on the Bills.
The workshop was necessitated by some of the confusion caused when National Treasury announced a Special Appropriation Bill on Eskom in 2019. Media raised questions around how the amounts announced for Eskom during the February Budget in the Appropriation Bill tallied with the amounts announced during the Special Appropriation Bill.
Media are reminded that senior officials who will address the workshop are not to be quoted in any news articles. The information they share may, however, be used for background and context in future stories. Again, please note that this is not an opportunity for interviews nor is it a briefing on what will be presented in the MTBPS the following day. The workshop is for information sharing and educational purposes.
