Minister Zweli Mkhize addresses Free State Local Government Lekgotla, 6 Nov

The Minister for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Dr Zweli Mkhize, will address the Free State Local Government Lekgotla tomorrow, 6 November 2018 in Bloemfontein.

The Lekgotla has been organised under the theme of “Thuma Mina: Towards Functional Service Delivery Driven Local Governance”.

Minister Mkhize visited the Free State in June as part of oversight to discuss and agree on interventions to support distressed and dysfunctional municipalities. The national COGTA is working with the province to support nine distressed and dysfunctional municipalities. The affected municipalities targeted are the following;

  • Mafube LM, Masilonyana LM, Maluti-A-Phofung LM,
  • Letsemeng LM, Kopanong LM, Mantsopa LM,
  • Nketoana LM, Mohokare LM and Tokologo LM.

Some of the issues that the Lekgotla will address include the Back to Basics Report and an update on the Municipal Recovery Plan for the dysfunctional and distressed municipalities, the state of municipal finances, innovation and technology transfer as enablers for economic growth as well as social transformation in Mangaung among other pertinent issues.
