The Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), Mr Velenkosini Hlabisa, will convene and lead an Executive Dialogue with Business under the umbrella of the National Business Initiative (NBI) on Local Government Reforms, with a specific focus on the Revised Draft White Paper on Local Government (WPLG).
The review of the White Paper is guided by the theme:
“Every Municipality Must Work: A Call to Collective Action.”
This high-level Executive Dialogue brings together senior government leadership and organised business at a critical stage in the review process of the White Paper on Local Government. The performance of municipalities remains central to South Africa’s economic and social development, directly influencing:
- Investor confidence
- Infrastructure reliability
- Sustainable Service delivery
- Inclusive economic growth
The Revised Draft White Paper on Local Government proposes far-reaching reforms across key areas, including municipal finance, governance, infrastructure delivery, and spatial development. These reforms are expected to shape the operating environment for business while strengthening the capability and performance of local government.
The Dialogue will provide a structured platform for engagement between chief executives, organised business, and public sector leadership on:
- The practical implementation of the proposed reforms;
- Opportunities for strengthened public–private collaboration to improve service delivery; and
- Ensuring that the reforms support investment certainty, institutional capability, and long-term economic growth.
