Minister Pandor to attend Science and Technology in Society Forum in Japan

The Minister of Science and Technology, Naledi Pandor, will visit Japan to participate in the 11th annual meeting of the Science and Technology in Society (STS) Forum, to be held in Kyoto from 5 to 7 October 2014 under theme "The lights and shadows of science and technology".

The STS Forum's objectives are to create a global network based on trust.  It also provides a framework for open discussions regarding the development of science and technology for the benefit of humankind.

During the closing plenary session, Minister Pandor will deliver a keynote address on how to ensure sustainability and the future of humankind.

The Minister will also participate in the Science and Technology Ministers' Round-table Meeting on 5 October (part of the STS Forum programme). The purpose of the round-table meeting is to facilitate a frank exchange of information and views on matters of common interests and/or concerns related to developing and applying science, technology and innovation.  The theme for the round-table meeting is "Promoting openness and transparency in science, technology and innovation policy".

Minister Pandor is also scheduled to have bilateral meetings with Japanese Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), Mr Hakubun Shimomura; Minister in the Council for Science, Technology and Innovation (CSTI), Mr Shunichi Yamaguchi as well as with the President of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Dr Yuichiro Anzai.

Minister Pandor will also visit selected science, technology and innovation institutions.
