Minister Mapisa-Nqakula officially opens the 10th International Conference of Ombuds Institutions for the Armed Forces

 On Monday , October 29 2018, Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Ms. Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula will deliver a keynote address at the opening of the 10th International Conference of Ombuds Institutions for the Armed Forces (10ICOAF).

 The main objective of  10ICOAF is for Ombuds institutions to share their knowledge and learn from their peers in how they can contribute to providing oversight of the armed forces, particularly within the context of the armed forces role in untraditional activities, such as domestic security, crisis response, border security and migration, and peacekeeping.
 
Guest speakers will include: Public Protector Adv. Busisiwe Mkhwebane, Military Ombud, Lieutenant General (Ret.) T.T Matanzima, and Ambassador Thomas Guerber, Director of the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF).
 
The conference will be open to the media on Monday morning, including session 1, which will discuss ‘the evolving roles and responsibilities of the armed forces and the implications for Ombuds institutions.’
