Minister Blade Nzimande opens Science Forum South Africa 2024, 3 Dec

The 2024 Science Forum South Africa (SFSA) event will kick off on Tuesday, 3 December 2024 at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research International Convention Centre in Pretoria.  The launch will commence at 16:30 with the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI), Prof. Blade Nzimande, delivering the keynote address.

SFSA is an annual event intended to promote vibrant debates and engagements on the role of STI in society.  This year, it is co-hosted with the Science Diplomacy Capital for Africa initiative, which promotes science collaboration across Africa and beyond.  This year the theme is "Igniting conversations about science – innovation and science for humanity".

The opening ceremony will highlight the pivotal role of science in shaping society, government and industry.  The session will provide an inspiring start to SFSA 2024 and will be followed by a networking reception, offering attendees an opportunity to engage with key stakeholders from various sectors.

SFSA 2024 promises an exciting programme, including:

  • Side events from 2-4 December.
  • The SFSA Plenary, with the keynote address by former Minister Dr Naledi Pandor, on 4 December from 15:00 to 17:00.
  • The Panel Programme, showcasing diverse discussions on critical topics in science and innovation, from 4-6 December 2024.
  • The closing session, where the Science Diplomacy Awards and Best Exhibition Award winners will be announced, on 6 December.
