Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Dr Blade Nzimande will address the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Curriculum Transformation and Innovation Summit.
The summit will be hosted by the Department of Higher Education and Training in partnership with Vodacom Business, under the Theme: “TVET curriculum transformation: a key to unlock skills development for the modern economy”.
The White Paper for Post-School Education and Training outlines TVET Curriculum as a curriculum that responds to local labour market needs or that responds to employees or government needs to meet specific development goals resulting in a differentiated college system with various niche areas of specialization.
The DHET recently conducted a research study to investigate whether the programmes and curricula offered at Public TVET Colleges in South Africa are appropriate and relevant to the needs of college students.
The summit will also engage on resolutions of the 2017 TVET Imbizo which advocates for regular review of TVET Colleges curriculum to be aligned with modern industrial and technological advancements.
The summit will also focus itself on the following topics:
- Enhancing TVET Programme Qualification Mix (PQM)
- Strengthening Teaching and Learning in the 21st Century
- Student Development and Empowerment
- Inclusivity in the TVET curriculum
- Effective assessment of TVET programmes
The Summit will take place as follows:
