Labour hosts 5th Annual Explosives workshop to empower safety managers, 26 Nov

The Department of Labour is to host a day-long workshop to put into the spotlight the subject of safety in explosives working environments.

The 5th Annual Explosives Manager Workshop is expected to be addressed by Department of Labour Deputy Director-General of Inspection and Enforcement Services (IES), Aggy Moiloa.

Held under the theme: “Explosives Manager Empowerment”, the workshop seeks to empower managers with knowledge in the explosives working environments on the importance of compliance to occupational health and safety (OHS) requirements.

The workshop will be held at the North West University (Potchefstroom – Sanlam Auditorium). The gathering will be held on 26 November 2015 at 8:30am.

Some of the topics that will be under the spotlight during the explosives workshop include: safety in the explosives environments; issues on explosives workplace licensing; manager qualifications; management of explosives facilities; relationships between Chief Inspector and other regulations.

Explosive environments covers those areas that stores and handles dangerously volatile substances, including gas and petroleum products; oil, dynamite, and blasting caps filled with highly explosive compounds.

The workshop is also expected to be addressed by speakers from the academia; explosives technology institutions; the South African Police Services;  and the Department of Labour.
