Free State hosts Military Veterans Summit, 23 Nov

In honouring the legacy of OR Tambo, the Free State Provincial Government has been working tirelessly towards the provision of excellent, sustainable service, aimed at improving and empowering military veterans economically and socially.

As an integral part of the Free State Military Veterans’ Implementation Plan, the Free State Provincial Government will be hosting a first of its kind Summit for military veterans, scheduled for 23 November, 2017 at, Phillip Sanders Resort, in Bloemfontein.

“Through this Summit, we aim to promote engagement between military veterans, government, the private sector and civil society organisations in order to integrate the strategic objectives of the Free State Military Implementation Strategy into Departmental Strategic and Annual Performance Plans. Military Veterans remain important people, who play a critical role in South Africa”, said the Premier of the Free State, Hon. Dr. E.S Magashule.

“We hope to facilitate a platform for Free State Military Veterans to continue receiving roofs over their head, in our continuous effort of restoring their dignity. We equally wish through this forthcoming Summit to enable these unsung heroes and heroines of our armed liberation struggle to understand, internalise and appreciate more about their much deserved benefits as enshrined in the 2011(18) Military Veterans Act. This inclusive sentiment is conducted in the spirit emanating from Military Veterans motto that “nothing for us, without us ”, added the Premier.

This milestone summit include a myriad of related and relevant Commissions such as Criminal Justice, Health Care, Education Security, Housing, and Security, respectively.

Stakeholders such as local municipalities, SALGA, provincial and national government departments, parastatals, financial institutions, South African National Military Associations (SANMVA) and military veterans themselves will grace the historical occasion.
