Deputy Minister John Jeffery addresses Maintenance Indaba in Sebokeng, 31 Aug

The Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Mr John Jeffery will conclude Women’s Month by interacting with Sebokeng residents during a Maintenance Indaba to be held at Saul Tsotetsi Sports Complex on Monday, 31 August 2015 at 9h30.

This is part of the department’s initiative to encourage fathers across the country to be part of their children’s lives and contribute to their upbringing. To ensure that children’s rights, as enshrined in the constitution are realised, the department has introduced a 90 Day Turn-Around Strategy to fast track maintenance cases that are brought before the courts.

A pilot phase approach has been adopted in this 90 Day Turn-Around Strategy and it will first be introduced in Gauteng at the Johannesburg Family Court and be rolled out in other courts later on.

During the Maintenance Indaba on Monday, Deputy Minister will also hand-over cheques of the unclaimed maintenance money to seven beneficiaries.

Community members will also be afforded a platform to raise any issues they have on maintenance and other justice related matters.
