Department of Labour to host a hospitality sector workshop in George, Western Cape

The state of compliance with labour laws within the hospitality sector, a case for a bargain council, immigration with reference to hospitality sector and sustaining the sector are some of key issues for debate at the workshop that will be held by the Department of Labour on 4 December 2012.

The Inspections and Enforcement Services (IES) Branch of Department of Labour will hold the workshop under the theme: “Sustainable small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs), in the hospitality Sector”. It will start at 8h00 at the Protea Hotel King George, George in the Western Cape.

The one-day workshop will bring together stakeholders from business, labour, government and the International Labour Organisation (ILO).

Labour Department’s Director General, Nkosinathi Nhleko is expected to deliver the opening address. Some of the speakers will come from branch managers of the department of labour, Home Affairs Department, the tourism industry organisations, Tourism Department and ILO.

The forthcoming hospitality seminar in George, Western Cape, is to shed light on the high levels of non-compliance with the sectoral determination if the results of the recent blitz inspections by the Department of Labour are anything.
