Department to host inaugural provincial School Sport Indaba

Free State Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation in collaboration with the Department of Education and the School Code Committees will be hosting the Inaugural Provincial School Sport Indaba to map up the way forward for school sport in the province.

The Indaba aims to:

  • Share the School Sport Strategy with all the relevant stakeholders
  • Formalise the pillars of implementing the Strategy
  • Clarify roles and responsibilities of all the different stakeholders involved in implementing the Strategy.

The Provincial Sport Indaba also aims to start the process that will rejuvenate the Free State School Sport Organisation (FSSSO) that was launched in the Free State.

The FSSSO will assist in:

  • Streamlining School Sport programmes
  • Regulate all the school leagues
  • Funding of provincial structures.

“While the department has focused on sport development in communities through Community Sport programme, it is important that we continue to escalate our efforts in ensuring that learners in schools participate fully in sporting activities through the School Sport programme. We have to ensure healthy minds in healthy bodies both at community and school level. During this term of the current government of the African National Congress that philosophy will be taken to its logical conclusion”, stressed Mrs Mathabo Leeto, MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation.

The program is also aimed at identifying and developing talent at the young age for ultimate participation in elite sport at national and international level.

The Indaba will be staged as follows:

Date: Saturday, 21 June 2014
Time: 9h00
Venue: Bloem Spa Hotel, Bloemfontein

Your Media House is invited to cover the event.
