North West a hive of activity as G20 delegates descend on Sun City this week
The Departments of Basic Education and Higher Education, led by Directors- General Mr. Mathanzima Mweli and Dr. Nkosinathi Sishi, will convene the 2nd Education Working Group (EdWG) meeting in Pilanesberg, North West Province, from 27–29 May 2025. This gathering builds on the first virtual meeting, held on 12–13 February 2025, where South Africa outlined its three key priorities for the EdWG’s discussions in 2025.
Ahead of the main meeting, two thematic seminars will take place at Kwa Maritane Bush Lodge and Sun City Resort:
The first seminar will delve into “New Solutions for Population-Level Access to Quality Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE),” exploring innovative strategies to enhance education accessibility.
The second seminar will focus on “Mutual Recognition of Qualifications in a Global Context,” examining approaches to harmonize international education standards and facilitate global mobility for learners and professionals.
A two-day meeting of the G20 Education Working Group Members, led by Ministers of Basic and Higher Education will also begin on 28 and 29 May 2025.
South Africa’s G20 presidency represents a milestone opportunity to reshape education policy, both within the country and across Africa.
