On Friday, 27 July 2012, early morning commuters are encouraged to wear South African colours, sing the national anthem, fly the South African (SA) flag and support the South African Olympic team, on the eve of the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics. Dr. Ivan Meyer, MEC of Cultural Affairs and Sport, will host the final Magnificent Fridays event.
The Western Cape has a total of 24 athletes, six officials and one physiotherapist representing 10 different codes in the 125-strong SA Olympic team.
The Magnificent Fridays campaign is aimed at rallying South Africans behind the Western Cape representatives in the Olympic team, and the entire national team.
The MEC will be joined by Western Cape sport administrators and former SA Sports Champions.
