Communications Minister to switch on low power transmitter at Ekulindeni Community in Mpumalanga province

The Minister of Communications, General (Ret) Siphiwe Nyanda will officially switch-on the low power transmitter in Ekulindeni near Badplaas in the Mpumalanga province on Thursday, 10 June 2010. The switch-on of the transmitter comes on the eve of the kick-off of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The transmitter will ensure that about 20 000 community members from Ekulindeni and surrounding areas have access to television and radio signal transmission.

The switch on will also ensure that the communities are part of this historic event as they will have access to the live coverage of the 64 matches broadcast by the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) through TV and radio.

The installation of the transmitter is a partnership between the Ministry of Communications, the SABC and state signal distributor, Sentech.

This initiative is part of the Ministry’s programme to ensure access to information and communications technologies (ICT) to urban and rural communities in the country.

1. N4 Johannesburg towards Nelspruit
2. Drive through Carolina
3. At Badplaas after passing Forever Resorts, turn right to Lochiel and drive straight for about 60km to Ekulindeni (you will drive through Elukwatini and pass Embuleni Hospital on the left.) Drive through to Ekulindeni.
