Committees to visit prisons and Cape Town Airport

Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Correctional Services will be conducting oversight visits to three correctional centres in Bloemfontein and Kimberley this week.

The committee will visit the Mangaung and Grootvlei Correctional Centres in Bloemfontein tomorrow, Tuesday, 2 February and the Kimberley New Generation Correctional Centre in the Northern Cape on Wednesday as part of monitoring adherence to procurement policies, and to assess whether the current public private partnership correctional centres contribute to the objectives of the Department of Correctional Services.

Details of the three visits are as follows:

Date: 2 February 2010
Venue: Grootvlei Correctional Centre
Time: 15h00

Date: 3 February 2010
Venue: Kimberley Correctional Centre
Time: 09h00 to 16h00

Please note:

Journalists who would like to join the committee on the oversight visits to the prisons are encouraged to arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of the day’s programme as no late arrivals will be allowed into the correctional centres. Meanwhile, the Portfolio Committees on Home Affairs and Tourism will conduct a joint oversight visit to the Cape Town International Airport tomorrow, Tuesday, 2 February 2010 to assess its state of readiness to welcome visitors during the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup.
