Parliament’s Portfolio Committees on Social Development and Communications will next week, 27 June - 1 July embark on oversight visits to assess service delivery.
Members of the Portfolio Committee on Social Development will visit South African Social Services Agency (SASSA) pay points in the Eastern Cape. The visit will focus on the implementation of extension of child support grant and age equalisation in the Old Age Grant; conditions at the service and pay points as well as the implementation of Integration Community Outreach Programme.
The visit by the Portfolio Committee on Communications will focus on South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) regional offices, Independent Communications Authority of South Africa; Post Office; Government Communication Information Systems and the Media Development & Diversity Agency in the Northern Cape and the Free State.
The objective of the visit is, among others, to measure the role that Sentech has played as signal distributor in ensuring that the provincial population is able to listen to SABC radio, television and community-based radio stations.
The visits are in line with Parliament’s efforts to strengthen its oversight role.
