In line with Parliament’s role of holding government to account; committees of the National Assembly and the National Council of Provinces will next week, 22 to 28 January embark on oversight visits to various provinces to assess service delivery.
Members of the Portfolio Committee on Police will visit police stations in Limpopo to establish if various pieces of legislation that are in place are enabling the police to execute their duties effectively and efficiently.
The Portfolio Committee on Labour will be visiting farms in the Western Cape to assess and evaluate conditions under which farm-workers are working and to determine whether farm owners are complying with labour legislations.
Moreover, the oversight visit is an effort to ensure decent work through inclusive economic growth as this is a Government outcome and an objective of the International Labour Organisation.
Other committees that will be conducting oversight visits include, Portfolio Committees on Agriculture, Transport, Correctional Services, Public Works, Select Committees on Labour and Public Enterprise and Finance as well as the Standing Committee on Finance.
