Committee to look at SABC inquiry report

Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Communications will tomorrow consider the inquiry report on the South African Broadcasting Corporation Board.

The committee conducted a three day inquiry to determine whether the board had and could perform its fiduciary duties. The inquiry, which is in line with the provisions of Section 15(A) of the Broadcasting Act, was prompted by a spate of resignations of Board members.

On Wednesday, one of the Board members, Andile Mbeki, appealed to the committee to dissolve the Board with immediate effect. This after two more members of the Board resigned. Of the 12 member board, only one board member has not resigned and that is Professor Allison Gillwald.
