Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Labour will hold further public hearings on labour broking in the Eastern Cape this weekend.
The hearings will be held in East London on Saturday, 28 November and Port Elizabeth on Sunday, 29 November.
In September the committee conducted a two day public hearing in Parliament where stakeholders, including trade unions, civil society and labour brokers, were given an opportunity to present their views on labour broking.
The committee decided last month to also visit four provinces to hear communities’ views on the effects of labour broking. It visited Free State, North West, Gauteng and in KwaZulu-Natal.
In line with Parliament’s role of facilitating debate on key national issues, and its continuous effort to involve everybody in that process, the committee resolved, after visits to the four provinces, to hold further public hearings in the Eastern Cape.
