North West Tourism celebrates Tourism Month, 8 Sept

Take a sho’t left and explore Bokone Bophirima!

The month of September has been declared as Tourism month in South Africa and the North West MEC for Tourism, Desbo Mohono would like to encourage all citizens in and outside the province to take a sho’t left and explore their own backyards by visiting various local tourist attractions in Villages, Townships and Small Dorpies.

Mohono said that in order for the province to reach the envisaged growth of 6% in provincial economy by 2019, locals will have to play their part by exploring tourist attraction sites within their neighborhoods.

“In order to meaningfully contribute towards stimulating the economy of this province, there is a serious need for the promotion of domestic tourism amongst locals in order to instill a culture of pride and ensure knowledge and experience of our own fauna and flora for better promotion to the outside world”, she said

MEC Mohono further said that her predominantly rural province prides itself as a hub for Heritage and Culture Tourism.  She urged locals to embrace these aspects of the province’s economic pillars for socio-economic transformation.

“One example of typical heritage and culture tourism hub is Taung. This rural town is home to the Taung Skull World Heritage which is the original home of the Taung Child Skull, it also boosts and attractive picnic site, a perfect spot for relaxation and outing for the whole family. We are also a gateway to an array of experiences offered at prime establishments across the province which will leave you spellbound. These range from diverse culture to extreme adventure, from unique safari experiences to ecotourism”, she said.

Meanwhile, MEC Mohono will on Tuesday, 8 September 2015, lead the department’s celebrations of the 2015 Tourism Month in Marikana near Rustenburg. Mohono is expected to amongst other things unveil activities for the Tourism month and narrate in details, systems put in place by the department to promote tourism in Villages, Townships and Small Dorpies.

This year’s Provincial Tourism month is celebrated under the theme "A Re Yeng Bokone Bophirima where a million New Experiences lie a Sho’t Left Away.”
