Deputy Minister Dr Mimmy Gondwe Leads Bridging the Gap to Higher Education Youth Day Event in the Western Cape, 16 June

On Tuesday 16 June 2026, the Deputy Minister for Higher Education and Training, Dr Mimmy Gondwe, MP, together with the Executive Mayor of the Garden Route District Municipality, Alderman Marais Kruger, will lead the Suff Academy and the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) Youth Day Level Up event at George Town Hall.

The Level Up Youth Day event aims to empower and support 220 top-performing matric learners from 12 high schools in low-income areas of George, Western Cape.

The programme is designed as a hands-on, informative full-day experience for learners, during which they will have the opportunity to verify documents, create accounts, and actively begin their applications for universities, accommodation, and bursaries.

The event aligns with Deputy Minister Gondwe’s vision of bringing higher education services closer to communities, particularly underserved ones, by bridging critical information gaps.

Deputy Minister Gondwe will be supported by key DHET entities, each playing an integral role aligned with its mandate:

  • NSFAS, providing guidance on bursaries and funding.
  • Higher Health, delivering mental health and wellbeing support.
  • Khetha Career Development Services, offering specialised career guidance.
