Gauteng MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development (GDARD) Nandi Mayathula-Khoza will be encouraging the people of Khutsong to join the Gauteng Clean and Green Campaign on Sunday, 15 November 2009.
The programme will leave the community with a greener environment as GDARD will plant over 692 trees, a mix of both indigenous and fruits trees. This will be followed by the provision of Agricultural starter packs which are part of encouraging communities to plough vegetable gardens as part of the broader poverty alleviation strategy.
"We are going to welcome the community into Gauteng by making sure that the department helps in both cleaning and greening the area as part of the provincial strategy for people to live in a healthy environment," said MEC Mayathula-Khoza.
I will listen to the people of Merafong through the imbizo, what their expectations and needs are from both the department and provincial government as far service delivery is concerned," she concluded.
The community imbizo where community members will interact with the MEC, mayors and other politicians to raise issues that need urgent attention including service provision will follow.
GDARD will also vaccinate pets through the veterinary section of the department as part of proactive prevention of diseases such as rabies. Accompanying the provincial departments will be national departments such as Home Affairs and Social Development which will provide services such as ID and certificate and social grants registrations. The department calls upon all community members to attend this historic event. The community is reminded to bring their pets to be vaccinated.
