Chair of the African Union Commission to host a meeting of former African Heads of State and Government

Newly-elected Chairperson of the African Union Commission and South African Minister of Home Affairs, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma will on Wednesday, 1 August 2012, host a meeting of former African Heads of State and Government at the Johny Makatini Guesthouse, 201 Matroosberg Road, Waterkloof in Pretoria.

The meeting takes place against the background of a series of consultations that Minister Dlamini Zuma has embarked upon, ahead of assumption of her official duties as Chairperson of African Union (AU) Commission at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa later this year.

In this regard, Minister Dlamini Zuma is expected to consult with a a number of relevant stakeholders with interests in the affairs of the African Union, as part of preparations for her assumption of office in Ethiopia this year.

Accordingly, and in this context we wish to reiterate the statement by the Presidency that Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma remains the Minister of Home Affairs until all the requirements and processes related to the assumption of her new position of AU Commission Chairperson have been completed.
