Celebrations of a decade of Department of Defence's involvement in peace missions, Bloemfontein

On Friday 16 October 2009 the Department of Defence (DoD) will be celebrating a significant milestone of 10 years of involvement in Peace Missions in Southern African Development Community (SADC) and Africa, in Bloemfontein.

The celebrations will commence with a colourful Military Parade in 1 South African Infantry Battalion unit lines, and later be concluded with a march past at the Bloemfontein City Hall which will be presided over by senior government official.

After a decade of participation in peace missions, South Africa’s endeavour to establish peace and stability in Africa has become a key element of its foreign policy, with the Republic of South Africa being one of the largest troop contributors to peace missions in Africa.

You are hereby cordially invited to send a journalist and/or a photographer/cameraperson to attend the parade.

Members of the media are kindly requested to confirm attendance on or before Wednesday 14 October 2009 at 15:00. Please note that space is limited on the aircraft, therefore early confirmation is crucial. Please provide the full names and ID number of the journalist and or photographer/cameraperson when confirming attendance.

Members of the media are requested to report at Air Force Base Waterkloof at 04h15 on Friday 16 September 2009, and they are expected to produce their press cards and a valid ID on arrival.
