Celebrations of a decade of Department of Defence’s involvement in international peace missions, Bloemfontein

On Friday, 16 October 2009, the country will unite in celebrating the decade of South African National Defence Force (SANDF) successful participation in international peace support operations. The colourful event to be held in Bloemfontein will amongst others, include the march past by a Batalion (1431) uniform members of the SANDF who will march through the streets of Bloemfontein as well as a fly past. Involving Agusta and Oryx Helicopters.

The Commander in Chief, Honourable President Jacob Zuma will address the troops on parade and guests of the event. The President will also conduct a symbolic wreath laying ceremony, presentation of decoration and medals.

The Department of Defence (DOD) celebrations of ten years successful involvement in international peace support operations marks an important milestone of the country’s involvement in diplomatic endeavours to help eradicate conflicts in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region and on the African Continent as a whole.

Members of the media are kindly requested to confirm attendance on or before Wednesday 14 October 2009 at 15h00. Please provide the full names and ID number of the journalist and or photographer/cameraperson for the purpose of accreditation. Please note that space is limited on the aircraft, therefore early confirmation is crucial.

Members of the media who have confirmed their attendance must report at Air Force Base Waterkloof at 04h15 on Friday 16 September 2009 and they are expected to produce their press cards and a valid ID on arrival.
