Celebrates World Intellectual Property Day

The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) in partnership with the Companies and Intellectual Registration Office (CIPRO) will hold festivities in celebration of the World Intellectual Property Day, at Sammy Marks Square, Pretoria, on 29 to 30 April 2010.

The aim of these celebrations is to raise awareness on how intellectual property (patents, trademarks, copyright and designs, indigenous knowledge systems) impact on the daily lives of South Africans. This year’s festivities will be celebrated under the theme: “Innovation-linking the world”.

The celebrations will be in a form of an expo and the dti, CIPRO and other industry role players will showcase their products and services. Information sharing sessions will also be conducted for attendees.

The World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) is a specialised agency of the United Nations. It is dedicated to developing a balanced and accessible international intellectual property (IP) system, which rewards creativity, stimulates innovation and contributes to economic development while safeguarding the public interest.
