To commemorate World Cancer Day, Gauteng Department of Health and Social Development together with Breast Health Foundation and Cancer Association of South Africa will host a three days Cancer Awareness Campaign in Alexandra starting with the launch this morning.
The aim of this campaign is to empower women to be more informed about cancer, take more responsibility of their own health, detect cancer early and also go for treatment early.
During the three days, people from Alexandra and surrounding areas will be educated on the different types of cancers and also have an opportunity to test for cervical, breast and prostate cancers. They will also be screening for blood pressure and diabetes.
The project, Alexandra Women’s Health Project will continue after this campaign to educate and empower women in this township with the aim of saving lives. There are also plans to spread this initiative to other townships in Gauteng.
