Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training, Mr Mduduzi Manana, will be championing the “Apply Now Campaign” in Mamelodi, Pretoria on Saturday, 18 August 2012. More than 2000 Grade 12 learners are expected to attend the event.
The campaign is one of ground breaking initiatives the Department is undertaking in line with its mandate of promoting access to post school learning opportunities. This campaign intends to inculcate both the culture of planning two years ahead of the post matric phase and to guide students to choose more careers in areas of scarce skills.
Central to the campaign is to encourage learners to apply before end of September 2012 for the enrolment of their post matric studies in 2013. The campaign addresses barriers to post matric studies by presenting various alternatives other than universities. It further provides different funding models for deserving learners.
To date, the campaign has reached more than 15 000 learners in four provinces (Northern Cape, Western Cape, Free State, and Eastern Cape) through a partnership between universities, SETA’s, FET’s and SAQA as well as the media. About ten universities from various provinces have confirmed their participation.
The campaign will be taken to Limpopo and Mpumalanga within the month of August.
