Improved processes in analysing samples submitted at Health Department’s Forensic Chemistry Laboratories (FCL) are expected as three Deputy Ministers convene at Johannesburg Laboratory, in Hillbrow today, 7 February 2012.
Health Deputy Minister, Dr Gwendoline Ramokgopa, Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Mr Anries Nel, and Deputy Minister of Police, Ms Maggie Sotyu will convene at the Johannesburg Forensic Chemistry Laboratory between 10h00 and 12h00.
This comes after a lengthy grappling by Health Department’s forensic laboratories in speedily processing sputum submitted for forensic analysis. This has had negative effect in some of the criminal justice processes handled by the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development (DoJ&CD).
Criminal cases handled by criminal justice authorities that require analysis of blood and issuing of post-mortems, samples such as blood, urine and human tissues are forwarded to these laboratories for comprehensive analyses.
The Department of Health has three forensic chemical laboratories countrywide. They are located in Pretoria, Cape Town and in Johannesburg. The laboratories mainly provide samples analyses services of blood alcohol for drunken driving, toxicology and post-mortem.
Media reporters are therefore invited to join these cabinet members at Johannesburg Forensic Chemical Laboratory scheduled as follows:
Date: Tuesday, 7 February 2012
Time: 10h00 - 12h00
Venue: Johannesburg Forensic Chemical Laboratory, Hillbrow (Kotze Street)
