Briefing by Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) Minister on key local government issues

As we mark the 1st Anniversary of the Local Government Turnaround Strategy on 2 December and the 10th Anniversary of Democratic Local Government on 5 December, the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) Minister, Sicelo Shiceka cordially invites members of the media to a briefing on discussions that will take place tomorrow at the last CoGTA MinMEC for 2010.

Discussions at this MinMEC will include:

  • A presentation and discussion on the Report of the Ad Hoc Committee on Coordinated Oversight on Service Delivery by the Chairperson of Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs
  • The municipal spending on the MIG in the 2009-2010 financial year
  • Cross-boundary issues
  • Progress towards the 2011 local government elections.

The briefing will further include the following:

  • An announcement of the new Commission on Traditional Leadership Claims and Disputes (replacing what was popularly known as the "Nhlapo Commission").
