Beneficiaries to be empowered on their housing rights and responsibilities

About 50 destitute rural families of Kokomeng village outside Taung are to be empowered on their housing rights and responsibilities. The session is a joined venture arranged by the National Department of Human Settlements, the North West Department of Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison and the Greater Taung Local Municipality.

The main objective of the sessions to inform and educate residents about their rights and responsibilities as housing beneficiaries, the awareness session would also provide an opportunity for the officials to explain implications of not signing happy letters before given keys and failure to occupy the house for which subsidy was granted.

The MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison Desbo Mohono recently launched a R2,7 million housing project in Kokomeng in the Greater Taung Local Municipality, where the consumer education sessions will be taking place. The project was also intended to benefit victims of any form of abuse, the elderly, the disabled and child headed households as an extension of the 16 days of activism for no violence against women and children.

MEC Mohono has recently appealed to beneficiaries to take care of their houses and not only view them as houses, but regard them as homes.
